Thin Client Question

#1 Post by jronald » Sun Feb 26, 2017 8:13 am

At work, the internet is shut down. We are VPN directly to home office and its just not going to happen.

If I pick up a thin client, the one Im looking at has 2 gig ram, 16 gig storage and wifi plus Win7 embedded, can it run in stand alone via a KVM? It will never be hooked up to the local Ethernet, so should be invisible to the powers that be. We are saturated with Time Warner hotspots so wifi is freely available.

Thanks
Ron

Those "powers" must have very good reasons to shut down internet.
Main reason: they want you to concentrate on your work.
Are you trying to lose your job?

I dont know what you're trying to achieve? Perhaps you remote into your client from the work machine and then the client goes out?

If you're not supervised I would just get a laptop and use your phone internet hotspot.

I worked at many places with a work laptop and my personal laptop and just had both running. I am IT staff so that doesnt raise an eyebrow.

No the Thin Client will be 100% stand alone. It has wireless for the Time Warner Hot Spot so I have internet. I dont want/need two monitors, mice or keyboards, so ill use the KVM to switch between them.

Will Windows 7 embedded allow me to search for parts via the internet?
