do ALL T500s have Win 7 SLIC in the BIOS

#1 Post by cadillacmike68 » Tue Feb 28, 2017 11:28 pm

Hi, I was wondering if all T500s have the win 7 SLIC 2.1-whatever in their BIOS. The initial systems came out before W7 was released, but I'm certain Lenovo was working with ms on the systems way prior to W7 release. I don't want to get one that I can't put W7 on.
-Thanks, Mike

Not all of them have it. I have a 2008 T500 that came with Win Vista Basic, and it did not originally have SLIC 2.1. It is easy to flash a SLIC 2.1 and No Whitelist Bios though.

OK, is there a BIOS out there for this? If so, where? Mine is dated June 2009.

Of course, I still haven't figured what keeps it wanting to turn back on after I shut it off.

You can check with a program called SLIC Toolkit if you already have Slic 2.1. Under its "Advanced" tab look under "SLIC Diagnosis" and see the "Version:". You want "2.1" to activate Windows 7 from the recovery media. I downloaded it from here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/deskt ... oolkit.cfm

If you have version "2.0" then the recovery Win 7 won't activate.

The whitelisted BIOS I flashed on two of my T500s is the one from Bios Mods that RBS said. https://www.sendspace.com/file/9ihnds

As for the computer turning itself on..? :?: Might have something to do with wake timers? I know nothing about this.

If your T500 refuses to stay turned off (i.e. you shut it down and it immediately turns back on) take a look at your Wi-Fi card. I acquired a T61 on eBay that wouldn't stay off and it turned out that a faulty Wi-Fi card kept waking the laptop, presumably via Wake-on-LAN.

Thanks to both of you.

As for the powering back up, I have an existing thread on this. However, I recently dusted it off and without an HDD in it, booting to BIOS and shutting it off causes it to exhibit no unusual behavior, that is it stays shut off. Therefore it must be a winBlows issue, probably something to do with windoze power mgt.

I will check to ensure wake on LAN is not enabled. I never use that anyway.
