T440s getting slower and slower everyday

#1 Post by Whitieiii » Tue Mar 14, 2017 1:47 am

I recently put an SSD into the T440s and every day since the performance has gone down hill... I'm getting ready to put the 500GB HDD back into the T440s... it was a great fast machine until I installed an SSD into it but I am experiencing slower web browsing, youtube videos lag and don't play in 720P anymore without buffering and starting programs, including windows takes ages... minded I just put one of these exact same drives (smaller capacity) in my X220 and have not seem to experience any of the symptoms the T440s experiences I have done trim on the drive, turned off disk defrag, and done all the steps to optimize windows 10 for SSD usage and it just sucks... my internet speeds are 8 down 0.65 up via speed test so I don't think my internet is the cause of why this machine is slow plus my X220 isn't slow at all on the web so I know the internet isn't the cause.... I also ran crystal disk mark and the drive seems to have typical SSD speeds so IDK just help me get this computer to lag less!

X220 2nd Gen i5 8GB ram 120 GB SSD win 7 Pro
T430 3rd Gen i5 6GB ram 500GB HDD Win 7 Pro
T440s 4th Gen i5 8GB ram 300 GB SSD win 10 Pro

Seems like a compatibility problem to me. Try reinstalling Windows 10?

I don't have a key for windows 10 as I got the free windows 10 upgrade and I don't have a place to store all my files to do a fresh install anyways I'd need to get some place to store my files...

Use the HDD you took out of that T440s for storage...
Then go to Micro$haft's website to download the W10 version you want.
Your machine is already registered with M$ so you don't need a key.
Personally I'd go back to W7 and dump W10, YMMV.

at this point I don't have the funds to legally buy windows 7 Pro... but I will re install windows 10... I now just need to find a SATA to usb adapter to use to HDD as an external HDD

For Windows 8 and up, the second your machine is genuinely activated, it is also permenantly activated unless you change the product key or swap a motherboard (even replacing hdd or CPU or reinstalling Windows will still keep your license).

Go and get yourself either a msata SSD or ultrabay hdd adapter to save yourself some hassle

ok reinstalling windows 10 was successful and seems like everything is working so far... I need to get all the stuff back on the computer... while in the process the T450 trackpoint buttons started working again which was a win as I could never get them to work
