would it be possible to say, tell an X40 , if it has an 8 cell and a slice battery, run the 8 cell first,to 20%, then the slice, to 20%, then evenly distribute the rest of the way?
or is the default dual battery handling smart?
setting battery "rules" with 2 batteries?

Just because it says 0% does not mean there is no charge left. It could well mean there is no available charge and the machine will use no more. I've never heard of anyone taking the battery pack case apart to determine what the real cell voltage is.
I think IBM is smart enough to make batteries last as long as possble.
In my 600X, the UltraSlimBay battery also discharges first, down to 0%. It has lasted well over a year being discharged at least every three days, and still has about 65 minutes of full-tilt (PC Doctor battery drain test) charge.
