I just recently acquired a 600X, and will be using it as a back-up notebook primarily for traveling. I think it's going to meet my needs well, and keep my other new notebook home, and out of harms way on commercial flights.
The Li-Ion battery is completely dead - not suprised. The IBM FRU P/N is 10L2158 and is 10.8V @3200ma. I've noted several reasonable deals on batteries for the 600X on eBay for around $35.00. These batteries are typically rated at 3800ma to 4000ma.
Hence my question: Is the 600X built-in charging circuit up to the task with these replacement Li-Ion packs rated 600ma to 800ma higher than the standard battery pack? I would assume it is a current-limited slow (trickle) charger, but I just wanted to make sure I don't fry the battery charging circuit by installing a higher capacity battery.
And, one other question, what is the best solution to clean the display panel? Just plain old water with a bit of soap, and a soft cotton cloth? Or, is there a better cleaner available. There appears to be some grease spots on the panel, thus the question.
Thanks.
Replacement Li-Ion Battery Pack Question
The battery part number you should be using is 12J2464, which is the marketing part number, not the FRU. You'll find more hits with that one.
I would not buy a battery from eBay unless they said it was new. New batteries have a wide range of prices, and Lenovo is selling IBM batteries for the 600 for $85 right now. It's an excellent price.
Your power supply will charge the higher capacity cells just fine. It will just take a little longer.
Go to the ThinkPad support site and download your user guide. A damp soft cloth is recommended for the display, and a tiny bit of soap won't hurt it.
