Newbie with a question

Hey.
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T410 Intel Core i5 2.4ghz 14.1 laptop. The original screen is cracked so I hooked an ACER X191W to the vga port and it worked. These ThinkPads are prety good machines you just can't stand on them. I've been using it this way for about a year now. Have a tecky friend who will put a new (used) screen on for me. I just have to buy it.

I was wondering, can I use either the 14.1” WXGA (1280 X 800), or the 14.1” WXGA + (1440 X 900)?

I see alot of both on ebay.

The 900p screen is a very minor upgrade over 800p, just 100 more vertical pixels. People generally like higher resolution, so if you can get the 900p affordably you may as well aim for it.

When picking a T410 screen in my opinion you should pick based on manufacturer. Stock LG and AUO are better looking than the stock Samsung. If buying a specific screen you can try looking on Panelook and find one with better specs.

Personally I like the LG 1280x800 screens. They are bright and vibrant, but not bright enough for use in direct sun.

I disagree with TPFanatic on this one. I find that those 100 veritcal pixels come in handy. I find 1280x800 unusable at anything more than 12.1". Go for the high resolution one

I agree. I find the WXGA+ to be a significant improvement over a WXGA screen on anything larger than 12".

I`m using T500 with 15.4 in display. About 1,5 year ago I replaced stock Samsung 1280x800 screen with another Samsung, but 1920x1200. I can`t even describe how big the difference is. Now I don`t want to even think about going back to lower resolution, so my advice for you is to go with higher resolution. Just look up on forum wich panel you should choose, when it comes to brightness, grain, number of colors and viewing angles, so you won`t choose worse panel that you actually have in laptop. I`m not sure, but I think that T410 came with CCFL or LED backlight as an option so check that in first place.

I'm still here. Still using my thinkpad t410, with the cracked screen, thru the vga port waiting for when it turns back into a laptop.

I found this in speccy. 14.1" WXGA (1280x800) display, anti-glare, LED backlight
14.1" WXGA+ (1440x900) display, anti-glare, LED backlight. No brightness, grain, number of colors or viewing angles. Something else to think about. This is about all I saw on ebay.

I looked at ebay and some other sites and saw screens $30 and up. I went to panelook.com and couldn't seem to figure out how to navigate their site. They looked good and if I found an inexpensive 14.1" WXGA+ (1440x900) display, anti-glare, LED backlight, screen I would much rather. Found some part numbers on ebay that panelook would reconize. Panelook dosen't find t410 thinkpad in their search. You have to have a part number. (or so I gathered)

I don't buy much online. Kind of intimidating.

The LG-Philips is the better one.
Read the small print of the sellers, do NOT go for a "compatible".
