Re: WTB: T61p 14" 4:3
FYI: the NVS140M has 128MB graphics memory, and the FX570M (in a T61p 14.1" 4:3) also has ONLY 128MB, same as NVS140M.
The power consumption for NVS140M is only 10W, but the FX570M uses a whopping 35W! Hot, hot, hot...
The only reason for buying FX570M would be, let me guess.... bragging rights?
You can buy NOS (New Old Stock) NVS140M motherboards for the T61 14.1" 4:3 models from TuuS.
Those have the redesigned GPU and are made in 2010 or later!

Re: WTB: T61p 14" 4:3
If you require the most powerful gpu in 14.1" or 15.0" 4:3 format you can use a 15.4" T61p planar with 256MB QUADRO FX570M gpu.

Re: WTB: T61p 14" 4:3
That does not work, wrong (15.4") motherboard for a 14.1" non-widescreen T61.
Re: WTB: T61p 14" 4:3
I currently have a NVS 140m for extremely basic CAD designing and DX9/EARLY DX10 gaming.
128MB is not the issue but the core speed is and the FX570M would make the T60p the FASTEST 4:3 14" ThinkPad available.
I want to retain the 4:3 14" form factor and take a step up from the NVS 140M so im looking for a 4:3 T60p with a safe FX570M.
Again willing to blow a good coin on one.

Re: WTB: T61p 14" 4:3
I take it you mean a T61p?
Re: WTB: T61p 14" 4:3
I have a couple 14" T61p models, all heavily stress tested. One appears to be lightly used or even unissued, a very unique corporate issue that has no factory installed wifi, but is wifi ready so only needs the card which I could supply or install free, or from a small fee if you want the one with N band enabled. If I recall it has a 2.2ghz T7500 cpu, or could easily be swapped with any cpu. Naturally they all have FX570m. Also has a 100% flawless sxga+ screen since the laptop was virtually unused.
Next I have a high end model in nice condition with light wear for a laptop of this vintage, original native penryn board and T9300. I originally purchased several of these to source parts for my frankenpad kits, but wanted to keep these two whole since they were each extraordinary in their own ways. I'll let them go for $299 each plus shipping, battery and ac adapter is extra if needed.
I also have the crown jewel of my T61p collection, a special order model ordered by a member who worked for lenovo and was built months after the 4:3 models were cancelled (July 2008). It also has the rare 44c3926 motherboard and since it's not a refurbished board I believe lenovo used what we now refer to as an NOS board for it's construction. It's not really for sale since it's pretty much one of a kind, but since you mention you are willing to pay a "pretty penny" for this rare unicorn, you are free to message me privately with an offer, or if you have any questions. It's 100% original, T9300 equipped, and since the original owner preferred the IBM logos, he changed them replacing the "thinkpad" logos that the later production models had.
Note: all of these laptops are in storage, so I'm going by memory, but if anyone wants to buy one I will unpack them, but not just for curiousity sake.
ps. not related to this topic, but I also have one of the rare 15.4" T61p 08/08 units from my personal collection that is virtually unissued. These have become nearly impossible to find lately and have been fetching an ever increasing price as the years pass because of it's rarity, and finding one in this condition is extremely rare. I may entertain offers for this as well.
Of course I still am offering the NOS nvs140m motherboards in sealed IBM boxes if you would like to upgrade any ordinary or failed T61 or T61p. Although they don't have the fx570m chip, but it's confimed by multiple reports that the nvs140m can easily be overclocked upto 70% without any significant thermal issues which many believe can make it compatible with the fx570m and they are reasonably priced and are NEW (not refurb), most having 2010 dated gpu chips.

All frankenpads have a wrong motherboard, some more wrong than others.RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2017 9:43 amThat does not work, wrong (15.4") motherboard for a 14.1" non-widescreen T61.
It does work, see here, for example.
The fastest 4:3 14.1" Thinkpad uses a 15.4" 256MB FX570M planar, see it in the link above. It is currently available for sale, with quad core QX9300 CPU. The main weak point of the 14.1" T61 is the very limited choice of good quality screens, and both involve trade-offs.hoax32 wrote: I currently have a NVS 140m for extremely basic CAD designing and DX9/EARLY DX10 gaming.
128MB is not the issue but the core speed is and the FX570M would make the T60p the FASTEST 4:3 14" ThinkPad available.

Re: WTB: T61p 14" 4:3
Much as I admire Andreas's T61p handiwork, I wouldn't call that a FrankenPad,
but rather a Norse variant, aptly named LokiPad.
The amount of modification required is worse than trying to assemble good old Frankenstein!
Just for fun, read this: https://frankenblogsite.wordpress.com/2 ... ein-novel/
