600x systemboard

Hi guys!
I have been looking around for a systemboard for my thinkpad 600x -2645-5fu. It has the PIII 650mhz processor with speedstep (crap). But anyways, I read this off a description on an ebay item for a PIII 500 mhz board & was wondering if it is true. If it is I could go this route & not worry about it. I need you guys help on this one though. This is what the description read... READ BELOW...

This Board Was Originally Installed In A PIII 500Mhz System, But Will Work With Faster CPU's Including PIII 650mhz CPU's That Were Commonly Used In 600X Systems. However, It Does Not Support Speedstep Functionallity Like The Boards Originally Installed In PIII 650 systems. The Only Disadvantage Of Using This Board With A 650mhz CPU Is That The CPU Will Always Run At Full Speed And Will Not Step Down To Slower Speeds. This Will Result In Shorter Battery Life Than The Original Board, But The Cost Of This Board Is Much Lower Than Those That Do Support Speedstep.

NOW! If this is true, I can stop looking for a 650 mhz board & get my DEAD usb port back (it's not working at all) becouase I have only found 1 650 mhz board with speedstep. I really don't care if it "steps down" or not & actually would like it to run full speed anyways cause most of the time I use the anyway. Tell me what you guys think. I didn't know at all about this before. Thank peeps!

You would have to modify the P3-650 to work in full-speed mode all of the time, or it would run at whatever speed it normally slows down to all of the time.

I repeat, a motherboard that does not support SpeedStep will run the CPU at it's LOWEST rated speed, NOT it's highest rated speed. The only exception is the desktop Pentium 4s with EIST - b/c they would often be installed on non-SpeedStep-compliant boards, it doesn't make sense to run at the slowest speed.
