Help installing cyanogenmod on Samsung S7 Active
Help installing cyanogenmod on Samsung S7 Active
I really like the S7 Active, I really hate Samsung's custom Android 6.0 Rom... has anybody rooted this phone and been able to install cyanogenmod on it? not much information on the S7 Active and though i'd ask here as well..... I know it's basically a regular s7 with a more waterproof and tougher casing but I don't know if the rom is locked down like the S6 Active is as I was never able to fully remove all the Samsung stuff from the S6 Active Dad has... (can't even update the S6 Active to 6.0 since I don't have active service with ATT postpaid)
help me and let me know if it can be done before I buy the phone as I don't want the phone if I can't wipe it out to Vanilla Android 6.0 (Android 6.0 without Samsung's skin and apps)

I could tell you how to put android on any thinkpad but not on a phone. You probably need to go here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-active

You want to look for LineageOS. It's the successor fork of the now-defunct CyanogenMod.Whitieiii wrote:I really like the S7 Active, I really hate Samsung's custom Android 6.0 Rom... has anybody rooted this phone and been able to install cyanogenmod on it? not much information on the S7 Active and though i'd ask here as well..... What in particular is it that you are having problems with?
I've not played around with that specific device but It's pretty straightforward really. You'll need to correct files, SuperSU etc and you'll need ADB on your computer.
You stick it in Download mode and flash the previously mentioned files from cmd prompt on your computer using ADB. Pretty much exactly as all Nexus phones have always been. XDA would definitely be the best place to get the most up to date info and files.

Help installing cyanogenmod on Samsung S7 Active
What I want is to completely erase all the Samsung and ATT stuff (not disable them) and have a phone that performs like the nexus devices running android 6.0 I don't like Samsung's apps and skins and all the extra stuff ATT puts on it... but I really do like the design of the phone and no other manufacturer has come close to making a phone like thisTankPad wrote:What in particular is it that you are having problems with?

I fear that they may have locked it down farther than the S7/S7 edge like they did on the s6 Active

Yeah that's pretty much what a custom ROM will do for you. I took a quick look over on XDA and it's doable without doing any complicated stuff. The most important bit is to get a custom recovery on there. That way you can flash any roms you like.
