T460P with 940MX graphics for older games

#1 Post by Whitieiii » Wed May 31, 2017 6:43 pm

how good would a T460P with a 940MX graphics card and quad core CPU be for older games games from xp and vista ara? it isn't a gaming laptop and I'm worried it may cause some problems but I'm thinking of getting one for some GTA SA and GTA 4 gameplay maybe some other games also....

any inputs would be nice!

I wouldnt advise it because windows xp/vista games were designed for older architecture which the 940mx can deliver but xp games probably wont run well on 7+ . Use a machone like t61 or t400 with dedicated graphics because it will be more compatible. Play xp games on xp, no exceptions. Regardless, if you decide to play win9x games, win xp is your very best friend.

ok ya I don't think I would want to play anything but GTA.... I find it works well on windows 7 but in that case I may just get another T430 and use windows xp on it but I don't know how well the dedicated graphics are on it though...

If GTA sa and 4 will run fine on a 300$ consile, i dont see why a 2000$ dedicated card laptop that is 5 years shouldnt run it beautifully.

I have a T460p w/ 940MX and the i7-6820HQ and it does a great job with Skyrim. I play at 1440x900 with medium-to-high settings.

My son often played fairly modern Steam games on my T440p (i5-4300m @ 2.6GHZ) with the Intel HD integrated graphics.
Obviously he had to keep the resolution a bit low - but it never bothered him once he was into the game and playing....
It had a decent SSD and 16GB of RAM - so perhaps that helped ?
