Re: Prototype notebook with 3:2 LCD
Its not a Notebook, its a tablet with an attachable keyboard, so essentially a Surface clone. There are many surface clones with 3:2 displays, so its not really something special.

If you want a 3:2 laptop, get the Microsoft Surface Laptop, which is a traditional laptop with a 13.5" 2256x1504 screen:

As far as I know, this is the first 3:2 Windows laptop. (Though Windows 10 S is preinstalled, it can be easily replaced with Windows 10). The first 3:2 laptop ever was Apple's PowerBook G4, while the first 3:2 Chromebook was Google's Pixel.

Re: Prototype notebook with 3:2 LCD
Not quite true, I think this one was the first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huxW9ypPcTQ But the Surface Laptop is the first from a major manufacturer, no doubt.
Huawei also introduced a 3:2 Windows laptop shortly after the Surface Laptop announcement, the Matebook X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QbNR2byyVM
So we will see. I am not too optimistic until manufacturers like Dell, HP or Lenovo jump in as well, because the display-industry doesn´t want to give up 16:9. I think these new 3:2 laptops would have to be very successful to prove that there is a demand.

Re: Prototype notebook with 3:2 LCD
When is the laptop industry finally coming to its senses, in that a (business) laptop is for WORK, and NOT for watching movies?
OUT with this stupid 16:9 pronto!
Revert back to 16:10 or 4:3 screens!

Re: Prototype notebook with 3:2 LCD
Since they're making 3:2 panels, it would be nice to see a 14" or 15" ThinkPad with one. I liked 16:10 a lot. I still use one as my main machine, and a new 15:10 IPS display would suit me fine. Now if they'd just pair it with a decent ThinkPad keyboard.RealBlackStuff wrote:When is the laptop industry finally coming to its senses, in that a (business) laptop is for WORK, and NOT for watching movies?

Re: Prototype notebook with 3:2 LCD
There must be a secret deal among big laptop vendors to not do that. The only 3:2 laptops are made by Microsoft and Huawei right now but both have terrible keyboards.

But...but...they gave us number pads on our keyboards now! Because thats what businesses wanted. Or at least that's what they tell us.RealBlackStuff wrote:When is the laptop industry finally coming to its senses, in that a (business) laptop is for WORK, and NOT for watching movies?

For many years I have programmed on a TKL (TenKeyLess) keyboard like this:

Who needs a numpad, other than a bean counter?
You can still get similar, more modern ones, like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/292099136203
