wierd a/b/g wireless behaviour

#1 Post by vikingboy » Sat Jun 18, 2005 6:26 pm

Im puzzled, Ive just set up my newly acquired x31 with a ibm a/b/g mini pci card. Ive used wireless before so I got it up and running pretty much straight away.

My question is that for some reason, every 30 minutes or so it disconnects from my network, associates the ssid with roaming, and then reaquired the ip address and reconnects.

Is there something ive missed? Ive not seen this behaviour before.

I have three profiles, ANY home & work. I am at home where the only adapter enabled is the wireless one.

regards
Ian

sorry - I was being stupid and not reading the IBM wireless driver install page. RTFM....I know, I know!

Had to disable wireless zero config service.

All is sweet now. So shocked at how good all this IBm stuff is for the online update of drivers, ease of switching between sites with different netowk connections, wireless performance etc. Wish I junked the Dell ages ago.

Ian

PS still looking for a 'bluetooth' marked label for under the screen. 3ukp from IBM + 18ukp postage!!!

You aren't the first to realize that. I just got my first thinkpad and WOW was I impressed when I saw software installer. =)

my friends with Sony viao tr5mps and Apple powerbooks might be laughing at my 'first laptop styling' of the IBM but I know who has the better functioning machine.

I hope these nouvo or whatever they are called who bought IBms laptop business dont screw it up. WOuld be a shame as Ive only just cottoned on to the fact IBM rule when it comes to laptops!

Which model of the ABG card did you install? I'm looking to upgrade my B card.

Thanks,
Chap

It was an IBm a/b/g from ebay about 75usd. The seller had several and shipped from hong kong promptly and well packed.
Ill post auction number up for you later. There are only a few cards which work without resorting to hacking your bios which felt ugly to me.
