Thinkpad R51 Battery or Adapter or System Board

#1 Post by munkor » Sat Jun 18, 2005 11:38 pm

Hi,
Rigt now i am having problem with my thinkpad R51. My battery couldn't charge.
1. IBM has sent new batter to me.
Still not working.(I don't think this is the battery problem)

2. Adapter problem.
Not sure. But I need to plugin the adapter in order to boot up the laptop. I don't have another IBM adapter to try it now.

3. Laptop system board problem.
No idea.

I have been using the laptop 6 months nothing wrong. Before tihs problem occur, I did not upgrade any bios or controller from IBM.

Any clue guys?

Thanks

The only thing you can do is try another AC Adapter. If you know that the battery is not the problem, and that the AC Adapater is not the problem, something must be wrong with the R51 unit.

Has Lenovo tech support offered you any advice?

I am having a similar problem with my R50.
The battery does not charge. Havent found a solution yet ?
Munkor, did you find out the problem with your thinkpad ?
I feel that it is a System Board problem. I checked the Battery charging terminals without the battery and it shows -2.16 Vdc. Since the battery is 10.8Vdc, I guess this should be at least 11.5Vdc.
Is anybody aware if there is a fuse in the charging circuit ? I suspect that maybe the faulty part.
Unfortunately, my R50 is 1.5yrs old and outside the warranty.
