Today is not my day . . . My digital camera is dying and my one year old T42 just 'hiccuped' (sob). Here's what's been happening:
1. Software Installer has never worked as an 'uninstaller' for me; I've tried to remove my 'old' wireless drive with SI, but it doesn't work; I've also tried to remove TP Keyboard Mapping utility (I've found something else to get a Windows key on my Right Alt key)--again, no go
2. I finally used a RegClean utility to remove the keyboard remapping utility, but now my 'on screen' displays (volume, fwd/back, etc.) are gone . . .
3. That's background for today's 'hiccup': I was downloading pictures from said dying camera (Canon A40; dying image processor? everything is 'overexposed') via USB. I finished downloading the pictures, turned off the camera, and POOF--my computer died! Just shut right down. I tried restarting it. Nothing. Dead. I unplugged the computer (yes, I was on AC--not battery). Tried to restart again. Nothing. Finally I took the battery out, plugged it in, and it started. And seems to be working ok (I'm writing this on it). Battery is still out--haven't tried putting it back in.
So, any similar experiences out there? Did I screw up some IBM 'utility package' by removing the Keyboard Remapping utility--are they an 'all-or-none' deal? I.e., is Battery Manager tied to Keyboard Remapper in any way? My battery was still in the green: ~38W the last time I checked. ANY help would be much appreciated!

Could you post your model type? (for example: 2373-19U). People with the same wireless card and drivers may be able to help you on question 1.
2. The keyboard remaping utility and the on-screen display should be independent of one another. It could be that the reg cleaner inadvertently deleted registry keys related to the on-screen display.
3. I have no idea what might have caused your computer to crash, though I've seen people post that their computer blew after disconnecting an iPod or other USB device.
Can you reproduce the problem?

Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

Sorry, K. Eng, I should have done that at the outset. My model is 2373-3UU. I have a/b/g wireless and was trying to update from driver ver. 2.4.xxxx to 4.0.xxxx. As for reproducing the problem--I'd rather not
But I think I know what you mean--try to isolate what exactly is happening. I'll look into this. Thanks for your help
