Clean install on new HDD: install Rescue and Recovery?

#1 Post by cocoa999 » Sun Jun 19, 2005 5:25 pm

I'm getting a new 80GB HD for my 2379-D6U T40. I've clean installed before and plan to install my slipstreamed/nLite prepared SP2 on it, install all my apps, and then create an image with ghost or acronis that I can keep on CD in case I want to restore to this clean state.

Should I install Rescue and Recovery (downloadable off the IBM site)? What advantages would it give me?

If Ghost or Acronis works for you, I see little reason to install R&R.

I see little benefit having a Rescue & Restore backup on a disk that may fail due to a virus or mechanical reason. I used Ghost to copy my X31 factory install to a new faster HDD via a SCSI tape backup. Ghost didn't copy the hidden partition which saved me the troble of deleting it.
