X220 4291-sz6

#1 Post by ggiglio » Sat Aug 12, 2017 8:57 am

Dear all,
I'm just buying a thinkpad X220 4291-sz6 (at least this is the type the vendor gave me) but I wasn't able to find the specs of this model.
I searched the forum, googled it, asked friends and passers by, got no answer.
Maybe someone of you folks can shed a light on it, and besides: is there anything that I should be careful about before closing the deal ?
He says machine is in good working order and price tag is 190 €.
What do you think.
Thanks Ggiglio

The MTM link shows the details:
http://tp.krelay.de/index.php?type=4291-SZ6

However, it does not say one very important thing - whether the LCD is IPS or not. Unfortunately, Lenovo never made this distinction in their model descriptions.

Enter the Serial Number (without -) here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/partslookup
then compare the LCD P/N with the HMM list.
Or if that machine has Windows on it, bring a USB version of HWINFO and run it if they let you, to check the LCD.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

thanks to the MTM link now I have some leads for my pre-buying investigation. Too bad Lenovo didn't code the IPS display.
Anyway, I'll try to cut a few bucks off the price
cheers

Also look up Lenovo's PSREF for X220.
There are several models in there with Prem screens, which is the IPS indication.
The PSREF is not complete though.

Thanks RBS (as always). I managed to download the PSR files from Lenovo website, but it wasn't my lucky day and 4291-SZ6 was not listed. Anyway, you did warn me.
Should I get it I'll post a final report.

still searching to get prelimiary info I stumbled on this link:
https://support.lenovo.com/it/it/solutions/migr-77192#5
Now I assume that tp220 had 12.5 led backlight or ips (premium) display, but...
4291-sz6 can't be found in either listing, so:
was I guessing wrong and there are some tp220 with a non-led display out there ?
Anyone with a clue ?
thanks G.

Your link does not work for me.

All X220 displays are LED.

When in doubt, don't buy it.
If the seller is nearby, go have a look.
With the machine on, check the LCD from every angle.
If you see the same colors and brightness from every angle, then it should be IPS.

Alternatively, buy a decent X220 with cracked screen for no more than ca. 100 Euro and put in a new IPS screen.
Or look for another X220 with guaranteed IPS screen.
Or put a WTB (want to buy) ad in our Marketforum for an IPS X220.

On a different note: we are talking about an X220 here, NOT about tp220 (does not exist!).

it's because lenovo's site is localized for the country one is calling from. You can try changing it/it in the address with us/en (if you are in US) or the appropriate country/language combination, otherwise go to the support home page, look for "parts and accessories" and follow the stream (that's what I have done).
Seriously thinking of dropping the ball and stick to my old good T42 :(
