United States Hardware Announcement 105-209
June 21, 2005
Announcements for ThinkPad® T43 models of machine type 18xx (1871, 1872, 1875, and 1876) contained incorrect information about support for DVI monitors.
The announcements incorrectly stated that support for a DVI monitor is through the ThinkPad Docking options and is limited to a resolution of 1280 x 1024, 60 Hz mode.
Machine types 1871, 1872, 1875, and 1876 (all machine types 18xx of the ThinkPad T43 series) do not support DVI monitors.

Aha I knew it! A while back I noticed that in IBM's description of the ATI x300 what was conspicuously absent was any mention of external DVI support, and I began to suspect that the x300 may have dropped that capability. And of course the dock can't "pass through" something the laptop doesn't provide.
Thanks for the confirmation! And as someone with a large 22" flat panel digital LCD (the Samsung 213T) I must say that is a bit of sad news for the T43 series.
Edited to say: Wait a sec! They say that the 18xx models don't support external DVI. Does that mean the 23xx and 26xx models DO support external DVI?
I think the 18xx models are the ones with Intel integrated graphics running XGA. If so, then I'm not surprised that such a low budget graphics offering isn't supporting external DVI. But if the ATI x300 DOES, then that is good news.
