Warranty Question Since I Can't Seem to Get Through

#1 Post by brainpicker » Tue Jun 21, 2005 10:51 am

I am getting a constant busy signal today and I have a simple question on warranty repair that someone here might be able to help with. On an X31 the docking connector pins on the bottom are protected by 2 sections of retracting plastic. These 2 plastic pieces are held in place (when closed) by 2 small metal springs, one on each side. One of my springs has come off and no amount of "at home" surgery is able to get it back on because it is so [censored] small. I have the spring but from all my tries it is getting a bit mangled! Is this repair covered by my 3-year warranty? It didn't happen due to abuse, just normal everyday use. Since this spring offers protection to the pins that enable docking and the use of the extended battery it is very important to me to have this protection. If not covered by warranty I guess I could just tape the plastic shut with electrical tape when not using the pins. The "rattling" also annoys me. Anyone know the answer or have an alternate solution?

Thanks,
Yak

Just say that the spring fell out for no apparent reason, and that you would like to have it fixed under warantee repair. There shouldn't be a problem. I think.

When I finally got through they said it wasn't a problem at all and they sent out a box today. I was told the entire bottom of the laptop was going to be replaced just to fix a 1-cent spring! If I had a small tweezer and a large magnifying glass (and a person to hold it) I could fix it myself. It seems like such a waste but I'll take what they give me.
