Because it is a custom build laptop. What are the specs?

This is the "same" system I bought with some small differences:

1) I asked for 256MB of RAM, and odered 1GB from crucial. The extra 256MB on the 512 chip will cost you $63 more. You can get 1GB from crucial for $140

2) I get the one year warranty

The price is "good." If you call IBM and ask for a student discount, this same system will cost you at least 10% less. I did that for my system (with the specs I mentioned) and the price was $1,390. NOW, if you can't get the EPP discount, you can get even 20 or more off!

I am not concerned with the fan at all. I wanted the top of the line machine, and that is what we are getting. I believe that it needs to have a powerfull fan becasue of the system itself: 1.86GHZ with 533MHZ needs more fan than the T42. That is my opnion
