Just ordered my T42p

#1 Post by Celestar » Thu Jun 23, 2005 1:32 am

Hello all,

based on your various post about the T43p/T42p, I've changed my mind in the last second and converted my T43p into a T42p order, as I'm a rather noise sensitive person, and battery life is rather important. Hope to get the device early next week.

Thanks to all :)

:) It's a 2373-P3G

P-M 765, 1GB RAM, FireGL T2, 14.1" 1400x1050, dvd burner, fingerprint reader ...

Got myself a Ultrabay battery and a 6cell (should I really need a smaller form factor once) as well, with a Pixel-check and a 3-year on-site warranty (Got [censored] when I had to UPS my ACER 4times in the past 2 years)

Let's see how it works on linux :)

That's when you pay a bit extra to have the authorized seller check the system over for you to make sure it is perfect before shipment (no bad pixels). I believe Bill offers that option on purchases through Thinkpads.com. That's a great service and (to me) well worth it.

Hi Celestar,

I also have the 2373-P1G which seems to be identical to the P3G. I think this is currently definitevly one of the best choices if you want to have the smaller T42 cases.

Then I added another Gigabyte from www.speichermarkt.de and everything rocks.

I'm wondering whether I get 2x512MB or 1x1024, but I fear the former. The dealer "didn't know" what was installed

According to tabook.pdf you have 1x1GB (which is under the keyboard) and 1 slot spare which has a small lid on the bottom side.

Luckly IBM doesn't appear to screw the consumer with regards to ram upgrades. I think every dell I've ever ordered for family members ends up coming with 2 sticks of ram making it much harder to upgrade.

I *THINK* you can. There are no utilities for it, but the kernel has sources that dictate the voltage for every bus multiplier (saw it in a recent patch that added 2.13GHz Sonoma support to the kernel). If you find your stable voltages on windows, hack the kernel sources to those voltages, you should be in business (that's what I plan to do).

The file is arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/speedstep-centrino.c
