XP Installation doesn't work

#1 Post by maverick_xj » Thu Jun 23, 2005 2:51 am

Hey

I know there have been a lot of threads concerning the installation of windows xp on thinkpads, but I couldn't find one answering my query so here it goes.

I have a Thinkpad R52 and am trying to install windows xp pro on it.
I used a bootable disk of winXP to delete the initial C: drive I have, and created a new partition of 10GB. The installation continued and the installation files were copied. Now the installation asks for a reboot, but after rebooting I get the IBM/Intel splash screen and then just get a blank screen with a blinking cursor and nothing happens.

I've been using winXP for a long time on my desktop but this is the first time I'm trying to install it on my thinkpad.

> My PreDesktop Area still exists and is secure
> I made recovery cd's before formatting
> At the point of the reboot my hard disk state is :
C: ( 10GB)
Unpartitioned Disk Space
PreDesktop Area: 4GB

Any clue as to what is happening here and what could be going wrong ??

:? :(

Is the C: partition primary and set active?

You can also try using the XP Pro diskette set to get started, prepare your hard disk properly and then load XP. The diskette set is available from the Microsoft web site and needs to be matched to the service pack level of the CD.

If you have an R52, did it not come preloaded with XP? and so push F11 and recover. ... JD Hurst
