software installer: "not an ibm"

huh? i try running the s/w installer on my t42 (have run it before, but was checking for updates) and it tells me that it cant run because its not an ibm..

wha? the only thing ive done to the machine is to install the (modded) catalyst 5.6 drivers.

any ideas on how to fix it, without going back to the ibm drivers?

Make certain the laptop has a valid serial number. It will not be valid if the system board was replaced and the servicer did not update the serial number and model number. ... JD Hurst

nope the system board has not been replaced since last week when i last reinstalled windows, i would remember if it did!

I have installed the modded catalyst 5.6 and subsequently used the ibm software installer with no problems. The software installer simply tells me there is a newer ver of the video card drviers but I just choose not to install.

mm weird i dont even get that far. the error appears before the screen where you get to choose to download+install, view current drivers and uninstall drivers.

tried redownloading the file but still stops there.
