i have a t43 and so do many around here.
we are all bugged by the "fan" issue at varying levels. Some more than the others. But we have not taken any steps to reduce its irritability.

I suggest let us try and solve this sucker ourselves.

1. Install CHC and downvolt. That helps whether u think downvolting is evil or not. It does help.

2. I want your opinion on whether the fan is noisy or the air blowing over the vents is noisy? I feel the [censored] fan is noisy.

3. If the fan is noisy, then what are the specifications on it?

4.Is the T42 fan quiter or they just dont run enough to be as noisy as t43s? If the T42 fan is quiter does it have same specs as the t43 fans? If so can we order one and switch it out ? Can someone with TPP do this?

5. If T42 fan is also noisy then we need to find another fan manufacturer that can supply a quiter fan.

I am getting started on these steps right away.

ok, 2C are down, working temp is 47-50 anyway, it does not change anything

it is the fan, the number of rpms is a way too high

I've spent some time googling - in vain

Hmm, too simple to be true, I doubt it, IBM hasn't responded to my 'fan noise' email for more then 2 weeks already.
