Ready to Buy TP

#1 Post by arun » Thu Jun 23, 2005 5:40 pm

Guys,

After surfing this forum for couple of months now, I am ready to purchase a TP. After all the research I have decided on the following model.

T43 2687-DTU
Pentium M 750 1.86
512MB 15.0" SXGA+ 64MB
60HS
Combo
Intel 11a/b/g
Mod/Blue
Finger
5.1 hr
9-cell
3 yrs Warranty

EPP Price: 1446

Is there any reason not to buy this TP? I wanted the 60U drive but its really hard to find a TP43 with EPP under 1500 with that drive.

I am going to call and purchase tommrow. Is there anything else I should buy? Port replicator? Dock?

I am going to purchase 1gig ram from Crucial later on.

Thanks everyone for all your help.

Arun

The price is cheap for what you get. It's a good buy. You have 30 days to evaluate it. You can return it if you don't like it at the end.

Take a look at the T42 2373-M3U. It has most of the features you list except a 6 cell instead of a 9 cell battery and a 14.1 inch screen instead of a 15 inch but that is offset partially by the fact that the hard drive is a 7200 rpm drive. The T42 does have an older chipset with a slower bus but it is considered to be quieter and cooler, with bettery batt life (at least if you compare a 6 cell in both cases).

2373M3U - 1.8 Ghz, 1.5GB Ram, 60GB 7200 HD, 14.1" SXGA+, Radeon 9600 64MB, Fingerprint Reader.

Or take a look at the 2379DXU for a 15" T42 with the 7200rpm 60GB HD. It is a little slower, 1.7GHz Dothan, and comes with only a 6 cell battery and no fingerprint reader, but it should be under $1400 with EPP.

Is this for the EPP price, i just recently bought a 2378-FVU for 1376 + 300 [3year TPP] w/ my 10% discount via United Parcel Service (UPS). I am still in 30day trial period and would like to know whether i can pick up this machine for the price quoted above and what discounts EPP gives.

Both the M3U and DXU are excellent values. Although they were my finalists, I ultimately opted for the T42p 2373-GVU, because the IBM (Atheros) a/b/g wireless solution, the 7200 RPM hard drive, the already-included 9-cell battery, and its in-stock status were all important to me. I'm expecting mine today, as it just got overnighted from Louisville to Chitown via UPS. I ordered my TP a few days ago (Monday), and I needed it ASAP. The aforementioned T42 models and the T43 models would have shipped on 6/30 at the earliest. Good luck with your decision.

Sounds like there are a lot of other options out there. Wish there was a configurator for all the models that I could use.

How much did ur GVU cost?

I really want.. .
15 inch SXVGA+
512ram
64mb memory chip
I guess bluetooth installed or upgradable
Fingerprint?? I envision using this for websites and folders to protect them
6/9 cell doesn't really matter
3 year warranty is always good to have
7200rpm HD? How much difference will it make?

Thanks guys.

again the M3U has everything you want EXCEPT the 15" screen. You will save some batt life, weight, and size by going with the smaller screen and both have the same nice high resolution. I haven't used the 15" myself, but the 14" is more than enough for me.

Ok I'm lookin thru the TABOOK and I found some others which would have EVERYTHING I WANT. ..

2379- N3U - Same as M3U but with 15 inch screen

2379-R9U everything and 3 yr warranty and 9 cell... i think this is it!!

also for T43

2668-94U
2668-98U

Both have 2ghz chip.. so might cost a lot more ... I need to call to get the EPP on these machines...

The EPP price of my new T42p was just over $1700, not including sales tax. I was very close to ordering the R9U because of all its features (including the fingerprint reader and the nice Flexview screen), until I realized that portability was going to be important, and that the majority of the time when I'd be actually using the TP it would be hooked up to my MiniDock and external monitor. At that point I decided the 15" screen and fingerprint reader were not worthwhile. Perhaps the clincher was the fact that I did not want to get stuck with the ol' Intel 2200BG wireless solution out of the box. You should consider carefully how you will be both transporting and using your laptop before you make your final decision. I feel I made the right choice for me. Good luck!

I think i did, but i dont really thing i got the same bang for the buck that I had hoped for. This 2378FVU only comes with 256MB RAM and a 40GB hdd, while the 2379DXU quoted above has better specs and a better base price. I paid 1376 for this unit while i'm seeing that the EPP price is less than my price above.

What percentage discount is the EPP price. Im still in 30day period and it ends at the end of June, i would like to make plans to return it rather than spend money on upgrades.

FYI, i paid total 1780 [includes base model + 3year TPP / Warranty upgrade + Port Replicator Free]

I am farily dissapointed if this is not as good a deal as its 2379DXU counterpart :(

You've got the best non-EPP price available for that model (2378FVU). If you have access to EPP, you can save $200 (EPP is around 25% off for T42 express models). You can ask for a price adjustment instead of returning it.

You don't get the free port replicator with EPP.

There's a lot of talk here about returning the machine during the 30-day trial. If I decide to return mine, will I need to foot the shipping?
