You see the MTM on the to of the forum page, use that to look up the model number on the bottom. Otherwise, burn Ubuntu to a CD. Boot it and you will find it has a LgeCD version. Just use Ubuntus control panel to find the resolution.
Probably should be Thinkpad16by10.

Looking For: 386 laptop, IBM or not.

IME, Clonezilla will display just about any resolution imaginable out of the box, no finagling with settings required

Isn't Archlinux for experts? I've only used (as in used for word processing and email) Linux Mint and the vanilla Ubuntu distros, and that was on a university library PC. XD
Has plans to make a Frankenpad. Please sell a Thinkpad T60 or T60p with a 1600x1200 screen resolution to me. :D

It is quite complex on what it can do but it is simple enough to right click the desktop and click display properties :D .

I don't think I have the luxury of time to set everything up (I've heard Archlinux doesn't come out of the box ready to work ASAP and that I have to spend time using the command line terminal) just to go to Archlinux's desktop then click display properties. I just want to determine the screen resolution, then haggle for the price. XD

Would pressing F10 in the T60 bios screen work? Or does the T60-series not have Lenovo Bios Diagnostic feature?

I agree. For a $40ish (or less) laptop don't scrutinize it to the same level and time as a new car. At the very minimum check that the battery, if it comes with one works, A/C plug-in works and boot to BIOS.

Most times I go a step further and boot into Parted Magic via USB. Parted Magic boots in about 1 minute, simple and provide some useful system information tool. The time that it takes to boots to Parted Magic is good indication of what works or don't work. Once in Parted Magic, I'll verify screen resolution, RAM and CPU. All of this takes 5 to 10 minutes. As with anything Linux, Parted Magic is not the only solution there are similar Linux diagnostic distros that works great out of the box and are very simple to use.

My own personal experience does not "comport" with the above "Intel assessment"; i.e. I do not find the "IntelGraphics" on my T61 14"ws just fine. The ATI graphics on my 15" T43-2686 are (far) superior to the "Intel Grapics" on my 14"ws T61.

The following ...
are some of my ... "take-aways" ...
from a similar/related TPF ForumThread:
Hans Gruber wrote:

With that said I have probably 6 or 7 T61 machines.
Several have nvidia graphics and there is a noticeable difference
in performance in anything multimedia with nvidia vs. integrated graphics.
I think it's well worth the risk of buying a T61 with discrete graphics.
Ask the experts here who have T61P's if they think that route is better
than a T61 with Nvidia graphics.

The Quadro FX 570M with 45w TDP (compared to the NVS 140M with 10w)
puts a strain on the cooling system, resulting in high operating temps.
Higher temps --> shorter component life.
The NVS 140M, while rather pitiful as a discrete GPU,
is still leagues ahead of the Intel GMA X3100.
"
"~~~
I would add that both (graphics cards) in 2018
both Nvidia graphics are equally pathetic.
Throughout the modern thinkpad history the nvidia graphics
have been largely marginally at best better than intel integrated graphics.
With the T500 series the difference
between the ATI graphics and integreated graphics is noticeable
but the integrated on the T500 are much better than the T61."

I don't know if those screensavers were made to work with the GPU well?

I tried these screensavers on my T61p with NVIDIA Quadro FX570M and it would not render the Plasma screensaver and was slooow in the rendering for WispSS.

Hope this helps you somehow.

P.S. This is getting dangerously close to not related to the original topic - this discussion could probably best be continued in a separate forum post. I recant this statement with further clarification that has been provided to me.

You are welcome. Glad to be of assistance.

I do not necessarily disagree with your analysis that this could be seen as related to the T601p -- I'm sorry for being dense and not realizing that this is why you asked about the performance in your question.

I hope wujstefan's experience could be shared as well.

When I finish patching up my T61, I'll try the Intel Integrated Graphics as well. With any luck, perhaps I can record a short side-by-side video for you.

Regards.

For some "action" ...
maybe download/try the FluxSS.scr
&.also ...
download/try (what might be)
the most impressive ScreenSaver from that "ReallySlick" collection: the HyperSpaceSS.scr

pss: The most "fun" 8) ScreenSaver from that "ReallySlick" collection might be the SkyRocketSS ~
which/however requires having/adding OpenAL to your system ...

Don't want to be obnoxious here, but why use a screensaver?
If you walk away from your machine, you shouldn't ask it to keep working, it deserves a break as well!
My suggestion: After x minutes of non-use, let the screen go off, no saver.
You are not using it, so I guess you are also not supposed to be there, so who cares what's on the screen?

But my IBM 5151(actually a PGS Max-12) monitor is going to get burn-in!

I always let my machines go to sleep when left alone, I wojt put a screensaver on them because RBS is right. nVidia chips have enough problems, why work then for nothing?
Probably should be Thinkpad16by10.

Looking For: 386 laptop, IBM or not.

I had those scripts/routines "run"/manage 3 laptops ~

for almost 10years :thumbs-UP:
For whatever/various reasons ...
none of those 3 laptops ever developed
any related CPU/display "side-effects" 8)

Some/(Most?) people don't keep computers even close to 10years ...
even if the machines might last/function that long :SH!:

Those (previous/above) ScreenSavers (in question) are ...
(imo) in this case ... simply a Graphic/GPU BenchMarking Performance-Indicator

ps: Those (previous/above) ScreenSavers (in question) have Settings ~
which can/should be adjusted ... not only when "BenchMarking" GPU/display performance ...
The Frame rate limit (usually between 0 and 120)
(usually) has the greatest EFFECT on CPU demand ...
I have found that the Frl can (usually) be set quite low ...
even around 10~15 ... with no noticeable visual/performance differential :BAAAD!:

Guess what ... BIG SURPRISE/NEWS
This sunny Saturday afternoon I was exchanging PMs with a certain TP-C member which set me off on a (new) tangent

I went & took a close/r look @ the ReallySlickSS site and found/read the ReallySlickSS FAQs
which includes the following:
"4 - This saver is running slowly, and I am using Intel graphics.

First, read this. In a nutshell, Intel disables hardware acceleration for OpenGL screensavers. I would like to believe that they have a good reason for doing this, but I cannot think of one. I have written to Intel a couple times to ask about this, but they have never responded.

One kind user reported a workaround: Try renaming your OpenGL savers from ".scr" to ".sCr". It appears the Intel driver does not check all variations on capitalization when it deactivates hardware rendering.
"
GUESS WHAT  Renaming PlasmaSS.scr to PlasmaSS.sCr DID/DOES indeed allow my T61 14"ws with Intel IntegratedGraphics to render that OpenGL ScreenSaver :!: Renaming WispSS.scr to WispSS.sCr DID/DOES indeed allow my T61 to NICELY render that nice ScreenSaver

I am COMPLETELY amazed by this development! THANK YOU ReallySlickSS & TP.c Support Community

ps:I began exploring this issue here in this ForumThread by acknowledging that "ScreenSavers are not everyone's CupOfTea. I really don't feel the need to emphatically "defend/justify" my (& others's) penchant for ScreenSavers.

I have my laptops to USE themI have a quite well developed MultiMedia / Audio/Visual "system"/setup I often have two or three laptops going @ the same time I enjoy developing/exploiting the MultiMedia / Audio/Visual capabilities. Apparently so do some others like those @ReallySlickSS!

I'm almost done preparing the machines. This, however, eats LOTS of time, really. And my wife is a hard negotiator when it comes to time-stealing thinkpad tinkering ;)

HP Elitebook 8740w - multimedia

Sorry for the trouble ...
Testing the ScreenSavers is not Time-Consuming ..
I can't imagine what your PrepWork is ...

Anyway, I previously gave the link to the site
where you/ anyone could download
the actual/original ScreenSavers ...

Otherwise ...
you I gave 4 links to four SSs
that I uploaded ...
I would say ...
try them in the order I posted them :thumbs-UP:

Testing is not time consuming - preparing those machines, however, is :D They stand on my shelf with no hard drives (well, 1 of them lacks it now), so this is my time bottleneck.
