What might this T40 be worth?

[Moderator if this isn't posted in the right place please move it and accept my apology as I took my best guess where to put it]

What would be a fair offer for this?

My cuz in PA wants to sell his T40 as he's graduated from grad school and got a job where he's getting a laptop. This T40 is a beauty. It looks brand new, like he's hardy used it. To me it looks perfect in every way, screen and all. It's a 14" SXGA Pentium M 1.6 with IBM AB wireless and Bluetooth. He replaced the keyboard with a Thailand one. He replaced the stock optical with a combo drive (the latest version that's in new T42's), replaced the 4200 RPM drive with a new 40GB 5400 RPM drive, and put in 1GB of PC2700 RAM. He said he did all these upgrades about 6 months ago then never used the laptop until now. Sure looks that way. The warranty shows good until July of next year (2006), it says it's onsite, and he got that thinkpad protection extra warranty too. He even has a like new battery he bought when doing the upgrades that he's including instead of the original one. I don't really need a T series but this looks like a really nice one. It would be almost like I'm buying a T42 but it's a T40. Yes I know the processor is Banias and not Dothan but would I even notice? What would be a fair offer for this if I decide to go through with it? He's my cuz so I don't want to make him an unfair offer, even though he'll be making the big bucks now! What should I offer as I'm leaving to go back home to Florida soon and I must make a quick decision? It would be easier if I really needed it..................[ JOHN ]

Well, if that's the case would you consider re-selling it to one of us? Where do you live in Florida exactly?

Yes, I'm willing to act as the agent for any of you guys and buy it from him only to resell it to you, but I have to know at what price first and I must be reasonibly certain the buyer has legit intentions. No offense. Give me some time to get a few responses here, then send me a PM with a firm commitment.

As for your second question... I live about 30 miles north of Tampa.

I did buy it and I'm traveling home today. I will respond to your question as soon as I get it home and unpack it as I don't remember the model number and I have it in a well packed box to carry on the plane (which I don't want to re-tape again). I do know the pixels are perfect.

I'll respond to you by PM tonight.
