T43's booting time is too long, why.....

#1 Post by sonoma » Sun Jun 26, 2005 6:45 am

Compared to other notebooks such as Compaq Presario B3820 (which is 'supposed' to slower than a Sonoma), T43's booting time is too long. I really don't know why it takes this long for the entire booting time to finish. Even my good ol' R32 boots faster.
My T43 even has 1GB of DDR2 RAM. The notebooks I have used in comparison are Compaq Presario B3820 (512MB DDR) and R32 (256MB DDR). Given that the operating systems are Win XP Pro for all three with differing hardware specs (R32 being the oldest model, followed by Compaq then T43), T43 takes the LONGEST to boot up.
The booting time was like this from Day 1. I don't have any programs in my "Startup" folder. I only run Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition on startup but the same version of this software is also installed on R32 and Compaq. Still IBM T43 is the slowest machine to boot.
Anyone else agree with me? If anyone knows what is causing this unusual slowness in booting time..

PS. Oh, by the way, the hard drive speed is the same for both T43 and Compaq - 5400 rpm. It's not the hard speed. It's gotta be something else. Look, R32 even has much slower hard drives. How come it boots the very same WinXP Pro OS faster?

What kind of software have you loaded?

My t43 not only bboots quicker than my T42 but also logs onto my home Cisco wireless system MUCH faster.

I don't own a T-43, but I wonder if extra hardware in the T-43 such as Intel 2200BG, Bluetooth, different video chip with perhaps larger drivers, could be the reason for the longer boot time.

Also IBM/Lenovo puts in their extras software wise, such as IBM Rapid Restore. A quick look in my T-42 shows 5 IBM specific services running.

IBM drivers/services running in the background surely contribute. The decisive difference could be network initialization delay plus files arrangement. For the later bootvis should help a lot.
