102-key American keyboard ("42T3744")?

#1 Post by Ryccardo » Thu Jun 14, 2018 1:45 pm

Hello again everyone!

After my X201's keyboard broke (the 9OL. column doesn't work unless the flat cable is held bent in a specific way near the connector) I had to go back to the T61 (it's now almost 2 months, with no real regret if it wasn't for the 8+ dead pixels and plastic cracks it has...) so today I went on eBay looking for keyboards...

What I ultimately bought was this one: https://www.ebay.it/itm/253659592322, in great part because it's the cheapest complete one (30 € versus at the very least 45, ie one third of what I paid for the whole PC with battery, charger, and generic box), but also because it has the American symbols layout but also the "vertical" enter key and the backslash between Z and shift.

But what kind of keyboard is that in the first place?
The HMM calls the 42T3744 a Finnish keyboard, which obviously this one is not...

(Bonus question: are Lenovo/Chicony known for repainting keyboards? The one I currently have, of British layout, has Danish letters printed in black if you look closely at it!)

That looks like a French-Canadian keyboard, but there aren't labels for any of the French-specific keys. For example É is also where ? is on French-Canadian.

For those wondering, it was both falsely advertised (2nd pipe key, the one next to Enter, was actually asterisk/apostrophe) and a dud (F5/F6/Delete not working); returned it and bought a "regular" American one a few weeks later from another seller, which works fine despite it being significantly bent out of the box! (After manual straightening to make it fit, of course...)

I suggest you count those keys again. NOT 102...
