Updating IBM hidden partition

#1 Post by Benedict » Sun Jun 26, 2005 4:43 pm

I have an IBM R40 (2722cu3), bought about 2 years ago.

Since then MS has released SP2 for WinXP, but the IBM hidden partition I currently have restores to WinXP SP1 (and very old drivers).

Now, I have my windows setup to exactly how I want it, is there some IBM utility that can "update" the hidden partition to what I have currently?

Run Rescue and Recovery to create a new backup (you don't update the partition, you update what's stored in it).

so if I run Rescure and Recovery, and somehow completely distory the windows partition, I could run restore to factory and it will restore to the current state?

You should be able to restore it, provided the HDD is not damaged, to the exact same state it was in when the backup was created. The hidden partition may be able to house several backups depending on it's size.

It's best to store your backups on removable media and/or an external HDD.
