Has anyone experienced this?

#1 Post by Dragonfly79 » Sun Jun 26, 2005 6:18 pm

I have a thinkpad t42p and the palmrest used to be really hot and the underside fo the computer was really hot when plugged into the AC. I think many people have experienced this with the fun constantly running.
I did the clean XP install and noticed that although the fan still runs constantly when plugged in, it is not as hot as before. Does anyone notice this?

Well, when you do a clean install, you don't have the IBM software controlling you CPU, Windows power management takes over. If you had the IBM software on high performance all the time, the CPU would be getting really hot. The problem would probably have gone away if you had set the power scheme to be adaptive.

You might want to reinstall the IBM software and do that, it works very well for me, and I have the t42p too.

in the FWIW column..

the cpu is under the keyboard..
so too is the graphics chip..
the communicqations card is mostly under the touchpad and mouse buttons..
the HDD makes heat and it is under the right side of the palmrest..

someone took a heat photo of some thinkpads some "time" ago..
showing the sources of the heat..

I have reinstalled all the IBM utilities and drivers. Also before the clean install I had already set the CPU to adaptive and now since I reinstalled the drivers I have not done so and it still is not hot.
