T42 S-video/RCA tv out results in black and white

#1 Post by borkencode » Mon Jun 27, 2005 1:33 am

I'm attempting to hook up my t42 to my tv, the tv only has RCA inputs, and I have an adapter from s-video to RCA. But when I hook it up I only get a black and white picture on the tv.

seems similar, but I don't know how to enable/disable the overlay.

I've used the cable before hooking up an s-video out on my brother's computer to the tv. He has an Nvidia card, and the settings can be changed from s-video to rca. There doesn't seem to be a similar option for the radeon 9600 in my thinkpad.

I have a T-42 with Radeon 9000 video. I use an S-Video to RCA adapter that I bought from Radio Shack, and I have no problems.

Do you have the right drivers? This could be a drivers problem.

I've used both the latest drivers from IBM and Omega Drivers.

You are using the wrong type of adapter. It probably has less than necessary pins.

The TV-Out is either a 4-pin or 7-pin connector. You can see the difference on this page:

Your tv-out connector probably has 7 pins while your adapter has only 4.

If you replace the adapter, you won't have a problem.

If you are bold enough, you can also try a S-Video to SCART and then a SCART to RCA adapter
