pcmcia cards

#1 Post by cheappad » Mon Jun 27, 2005 10:28 am

I'm waiting on a type II pcmcia 2 port usb card for my 600x 2645-5fu. I have a wireless card I use most of the time here at home. Is it possible I can insert BOTH cards & use them at the same time. I read on the IBM site that I could fit 2 type 2 cards but it isn't clear that I can at the same time. If not, no big deal but I would like to use the usb ports for my camera & thought I would be able to use the other port for my mouse. The reson for all this is the built in usb port is dead so I can't use it anyway. I just wasn't sure about this situation. Thanks.

By the way, I have a new keyboard on the way to take care of my 8611 trackpoint error. WOOOHOOO! :D Ebay, $19.99! I will still use the PS2 mouse most the time I think. Haven't really used a trackpoint that much so I don't know if I'll like it anyways. Most post I've read about the trackpoint, most users did like it. I hope I'm one of them. Thanks guys!

You can use two type 2 cards at the same time, as long as they physically fit in your machine. Some cards have thick protrusions which conflict with other cards.

I have a wired network card with a dongle so I can use another card at the same time. If you have an XJack card, it can make it impossible to use other cards at the same time.

I think you might be out of luck using the USB and wireless cards at teh same time. All I've seen have large "ends" on them that would interfer with each other. but you can use two cards at the same time.

Upper PCMCIA Slot?

#4 Post by BigWarpGuy » Tue Jun 28, 2005 12:45 pm

If you place the USB pc card in the 'upper' slot so it leaves the lower slot clear, one could use both slots. I have an usb pccard that makes it impossible to use the first slot if it is in the second slot but not vice versa.
