T470s touch screen replacement

#1 Post by MountainX » Mon Aug 06, 2018 7:27 pm

I just purchased a T470s. The screen has an annoying blemish on it. So I would like to take the opportunity to upgrade to a brighter screen. I was inspired by this post:

However, I am looking for a touch screen (and I believe the above posts are in reference to a non-touch screen). Any advice / recommendations?

Here are the stock parts listed by Lenovo:

I did visit https://www.laptopscreen.com but I was overwhelmed by the choices and lack of detailed info (i.e., touch vs non-touch) for the screens I looked at.

Laptop screen is probably going to sell you a compatible screen, not a genuine Lenovo part, so I'd stay away from them. I'd post here in the marketplace forum that you're looking for a screen.

It's been a while since I've done a screen replacement, but off the top of my head, I'm not sure going to a touch screen will work because touch screens are thicker due to the glass used for the touch surface. You might be able to get around this by replacing the entire LCD housing with the touch screen. Perhaps someone more learned than I will come along.

Thanks for your reply. The existing screen is already a touch screen. I am replacing it because of scratches and I want a brighter panel.

Still looking for suggestions for a brighter replacement touch screen for my T470s. As mentioned it comes stock with a touch screen and I simply want to replace the existing panel with something brighter.

It might be the same screen as in the T25.
Reviews about that touchscreen were not very positive though.
For a better and brighter screen, get one without that touch-option, it's really a fingerprint-magnet.

Ok, which panel would you recommend? Or how would I determine which panels are compatible?

Here's the T470s HMM: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobi ... 619_03.pdf
Here's the T470s parts list: https://download.lenovo.com/parts/Think ... 170426.pdf

It contains all the info you need for howto and what.

I'm not going to do any research on which screen is best.
Someone else might know, if you are lucky.

Thank you. I appreciate your help. However, that is not quite all the info regarding what.

I am able to see the parts list for my specific T470s at support.lenovo.com using my serial number. However, that only gets me so far in the quest to replace the panel because I do not want to replace it with an identical panel (only 250 nits). I know there are other panel options for the T470s series, but I do not know if some or all of those require different cables. And the Lenovo parts listing doesn't list the nits for a lot of those panels.

Of those listed, FRU 01HW908 (WQHD, 300 nit, touch) might interest me. Can anyone say if this is a drop-in replacement? If it requires a different cable, how do I find which cable is required.

One interesting thing I saw on panelook.com is that my stock panel (mfg part #R140NWF5) is the only 14" panel listed that has an IPLEX 20525-040E-02 connector. I don't know exactly how to interpret that information, but it seems to say that panelook.com cannot point me to any other 14" panels that will connect to my existing cable.

http://www.panelook.com/modelcompare.ph ... 6910,17530

With panelook.com not showing me any other options (based on the identical connector and size), I would like to further evaluate all the options listed in the Lenovo parts list. But Lenovo doesn't provide specs or even manufacturer part numbers for most of those. So I do not know how to find the nits or other specs since panelook.com seems to be a deadend.
