Battery won't charge

Do you have the latest BIOS? I have an X-30 and it would not properly charge batteries (when usng it with external battery/stand) until I updated BIOS. There was an upgrade note that previous BIOS had this problem.

Try cleaning any of the battery contacts (battery & laptop) with a Q-Tip (TM) and Isopropyl Alcohol. I also found as a last resort (and I don't know WHY this works for me other than dumb luck) that violently shaking a nearly dead battery before charging it gets the charge process started. I take no responsibility for any damage this might cause, but unless it flies out of your hand and hits someone in the head I don't think it would hurt an already near-dead battery. But if it like blows up or something I have the disclaimer!

Looks like I'm in the same boat here, just got the extended battery for my X31 and while it is being seen in the battery setting, there is no info about it. A BIOS upgrade is always a bit risky so just wanted to check that this was the situation with you too. It's a refurb so it coulb be a defective battery too.

By the way unless the "foot" of the extended battery is unfolded the X31 is not very stable, is it !

re wont charge

My issue is probably a system board problem ( I dont have the extended battery just a spare that came with a full charge ) it is under warranty and the shop I bought it from have sent it back to IBM phew its great that the warranty travels with the machine.

Actually, figured out in another thread that only battery can be charged at a time, the extended one was flat when I got it hence the initial problem.
