Where's the ATI sticker on the T42P-2373GVU?

#1 Post by snowdog » Mon Jun 27, 2005 4:13 pm

I just received my T42P 2373GVU today and I noticed that it does not have the ATI sticker logo???

And I ran PC Dr and it sees the ATI FIREGL (also on the display properties).

Anyone else noticed this? I want my sticker [censored] it!!

Thnx.

Not sure what sticker that would be. None of my T42's or T42p's had an ATI sticker. They had the "Intel Inside (Pentium M)" sticker and the Designed For XP stickers, but that's all.

That large ATi sticker looks hideous. Are you sure you really want to deface your TP with a tacky sticker like that? :P

On my 2373-G2U the ATI sticker is just above the Centrino and about half the size.

I didn't know there was some kind of ATI FireGL sticker floating around. My new GVU has on the lower left just the "Intel Inside/Pentium M" and "Designed for Windows XP" sitckers. Thank God there's no "Centrino" sticker. That alone satisfies me. Furthermore, the subtle "T42p" label does it for me, too. ATI Sticker aside, Snowdog, I hope you're enjoying your new GVU as much as I am.

I'm very happy with it. I'm glad I got it. I'm sending back the T43 tomorrow and get a full credit for it and saved $128.00 which will go towards more RAM from Crucial.

The GVU is good enough for me.

Best Regards!

I wish I could buy a laptop without ANY stickers. I just take them off and throw them out anyway. What value are they? Should I save them and sell them on ebay to "sticker enthusiasts"? When y'all buy a car do you ask for the dealer badges on the trunk lid and the front plates too? Do you pay extra for those large window decals that say FORD or BMW? Heck, I won't even by a dang shirt or sweatshirt if the designer's name is on it (I won't be caught dead in Hilfiger gear... what's the point... my name ain't Hilfiger?). The way I look at it all these companies should be paying ME to advertise their products, not have me proudly disply this crap for free. What person is going to give me a 7-figure job, or supermodel is desiring to have her way with me, ONLY because I have a ATI FireGL sticker on my laptop? Me thinks none. Anyone else I could care less about impressing.

Just my opinion. Oh, and if any of y'all want to put "Yak" stickers on your laptops I'll have some real pretty ones made up and sell them to you!

Yak

I prefer clothes without brand / designer name on them as well. But hey, removing the stickers on the thinkpad took less than 3 minutes. It may make people feel more confident that they got a brand new machine.

I've only seen the stickers on the T43 models of T series - i thought they started it because of the new pci express graphics chipsets but i'm not sure.

I'm another one who hates all the stickers on my machines so I wouldn't care about not having one.

Snowdog,

How is the fan noise with your T42? Could you give us a comparison between the T42 and your T43? I'm considering getting a T42 as well, but I also understand that there are plenty of T42 owners who have fan problems as well. Perhaps your model is a good one in this regard?

Thanks!

There is a noticeable difference in fan noise between the T42P and the T43. I can tell you that when I had them next to each other you can tell that the T43 was louder.

The T42P is very quite for my preference. And it is a bit faster than the T43.

How do you like the T43P?

Um ... you are the 4th person saying the same thing. Looks like the debate is over.

I love my T43p, except for one thing... the fan noise. This is not quite, but almost a top of the line unit. It's got the 2.1ghz processor, 1600x1200 display (one stuck pixel 1/3 of the way across and 1 inch from the bottom and I never see it), fingerprint reader, multi-drive, 1gb ram, bluetooth, etc. The fonts are definitely small due to the screen resolution, but I'm managing quite well. Pictures look fantastic on the screen. I'm afraid if I get another 2.0 or 2.1ghz processor in the T42p, I'll still have the same fan noise. Yours is a 1.8 ghz?

I wonder if others with 2.0 or 2.1ghz processors and the T42p could comment on their fan noise. I'm seriously considering on swapping this one out for a T42p.

Actually, my "Graphics by ATI" sticker isn't aligned to the edge of the laptop. By that virtue only, it LOOKS bad.

I'm not for removing it quite yet though. Dunno why.
