New T43...Some Issues

#1 Post by Nomad-Man » Tue Jun 28, 2005 12:41 am

1. When the cover is closed, the right side of the cover is closed tight.
The left side however, if you wanted to, you could type out morse code
on it.
So why does the left side allow play, while the right closes tight.?
And can i fix it.

2. Whats the purpose of the rubber type feel of the back of the screen (lid). everything else is a shiny black surface the lid however has a rubberized look/feel, which if you look close at it you can also see what appears to be metal flake.?

3. Are the white horizontal lines that briefly flash Normal?
Heres the lowdown.
1. Turn the 'puter on
2. You see the IBM Thinkpad Screen (logo) with the centrino logo in the top right corner.
3. Blank screen
4. Window Xp screen (starts-Progress bar shown)
5. Blank Screen
6. Welcome screen
7. Windows desktop

In Step #3. I see a white horizontal line. Approx 3/8 to 1/2 of inch from the top of the screen that briefly flashes.
The line(s) flash what appears to be twice (Sometimes it appears to be on the same line, Sometimes it appears to be on seperate lines. )

the other night I could have sworn I saw the same thing in step #5 except this time the lines where farther down the screen (like half or more). But tonight looking at it I didnt see those.

I would like to add that as of right now these lines do not appear when looking at the desktop area, even with the background color Being black..

Are these lines normal, or just the start of a problem.?

Thanks for the help

I've seen similiar artifacting on my Samsung 17" external LCD running on a desktop computer. It probably has to do with the video card changing resolution, as my bios is displayed at 640x480, the windows startup screen is at 1024x768 and the windows login screen is at the normal 1280x1024.

I wouldn't worry about it one bit if it's only doing it at those times, as that's fairly normal when video cards change resolutions or refresh rates.

1. T42 has the same problem. Right side is firm and tight. Left side I can press and it bounces back up a little. It's not what it should be but probably a common issue.

Suppose theres a purpose for the play on the left side?
I wonder if its adjustable via the hinges?

Hope Jhaislet is right about the screen, sure hate to have problems with it down the road if its a sign of something.
Anyone else here see the same thing on their puter.

Just want to make sure before my 30 days is up.

I'm just sharing what the LCD on my desktop does, being controlled by an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro. I obviously can't physically see what your talking about, but if you have any doubts as to if it might be a larger issue, definitely call IBM or return the laptop.

Worst case, you still have the 3-yr depot warranty which comes standard with most models if something crops up. Funny thing about electronics, barring physical shock & abuse, if they work on day one, they'll usually continue to work for many moons after that.

This brief "flashed" line on your screen is not a problem. This is simply your video card changing resolution. I have seen this on all of my ThinkPads and even on occasion on my destop screen. Boot up screen are very low resolution and this changes as you see the desktop. The trasnsition can casue this.

All of the Dell, Gateway, and Toshiba laptops I've used at school and at work for the past 9 years (hundreds of units) all do the same thing when changing resolutions. You are worried about nothing. It is perfectly normal.
