Pretty annoying, the plastic is slowly coming off, and its pretty annoying *Pushing it back does not help!*

Did you replace the original one? I have never heard of the clear plate falling off a T4x.

Some medium strength clear glue might fix it.

Do you mean the protective film?

#5 Post by Dow Jones » Tue Jun 28, 2005 8:19 pm

I think what you are referring to is the protective film used to protect the clear plate underneath from scratching during shipping/handling. If this is what it is, just rip it off. It's meant to be ripped off.

Watches, cell phones, clock radios, and many electronics usually have that film to protect displays from scratches until it reaches the consumer.

I thought that plastic piece was part of the TP, heh. Didn't know it was one of those weird plastic protectors. Thanks

I just ripped the "plasticy wrap/weird thing" off my T42 after reading this thread. I've been rubbing the bubbles out for the past 6 months. Perhaps we should be required to take an IQ test before purchasing a Thinkpad? Ha!

Reminds me of the time when I bought my first house and a new washer and dryer. After a year, the dryer wasn't working very well so I called for warranty service. The technician spent a few minutes diagnosing the problem and pulled this big, flat thing out from INSIDE the dryer. I said "What the h*ll is that??" and he said "It's the lint filter, sir." Since my mother had always done the laundry, I'd never seen one, and obviously, it had never been cleaned.

By the way, Thinkpads are also shipped with a plastic film over the IR transceiver. My IR port is on the front, left side, just under the left lid latch. It can be removed as well.
