Blutooth/Active Synch Problem on T41
Blutooth/Active Synch Problem on T41
I cannot get Bluetooth to link with my HP2210 PDA via Active Synch.
I have had this working previously if not very reliably.
I can establish a passkey betwwen them using Bluetooth Device on Com Ports 16 & 17 but Active Synch only shows Com Port 1.
Device manager shows Com Ports 2 to 17 as In Use, Why?
I can not get any responce from the TP Bluetooth Configurator.
Tried turning serial ports off and then on again.

I notice this is something that can happen if you reconfigure the bluetooth software a lot - my advice would be to uninstall bluetooth software and activesync, reboot and reinstall bluetooth software add a virtual serial port and it should go to com 2-4 then install activesync and it will let you use that port.
Snife, Thanks for the reply. I have uninstalled the IBM Intregated Bluetooth II and Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator from Device Manager. They reinstall when I turn Bluetooth back on. I cannot find how to uninstall Bluetooth Devices. It is not listed in Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs.

John, Snife probably meant you should not uninstall devices in device manager but rather uninstall the whole Bluetooth software using add/remove in Control Panel. Then reboot and install software again. Look for it in Add/remove, it should be somewhere. It may be listed as Widcomm or Broadcomm, not necesarily Bluetooth.

So it says Bluetooth Devices and not Bluetooth Configuration?
That may suggest you have never had the IBM software - go to www.thinkpad.com and download the bluetooth software for your machine and install it.

I have found new install instructions on IBM site. Now have IBM Integrated II software installed and shows in device manager and listed in ADD/Remove. Microsoft Enumerator no longer in device manager as I would expect from instructions. Bluetooth Configuration listed in Control Panel.
However, Bluetooth Device is still listed in Control Panel, should this be so?
If so, which software should I use to pair HP2210 PDA which I have not been able to do so far.

I have not managed to get Bluetooth working yet. I have removed all the drivers from the system & then installed again but am still stuck with the high com port numbers like com 17. I have also removed com ports from the registery but they just come back. I have looked at all the documentation I can find from IBM. Anyone got any other ideas?

I found the solution to the problem on the "geekzone.co.nz" forum as follows.
Thanks for all the help. Regards John.

Ok you have loaded some different Bluetooth software and now the lowest COM port you are getting is in the 10+ range? You've uninstalled and reinstalled until your blue! This is for you then.
There is a difference between hidden and nonpresent devices.
To see nonpresent devices in Device Manager, open a command prompt:
C:\> set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
C:\> devmgmt.msc
Then on Device manager click | View | Show hidden" devices | and your nonpresent devices will appear. You can then delete nonpresent devices like your old adapter, or you can delete both instances and XP will reinstall it with a name more to your liking.
To put this environment variable into XP permanently, open SystemControl Panel, Advanced tab, Environment Variables button, System Variables:
DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
