#1 Post by Volky1969 » Wed Jun 29, 2005 9:57 am

hi;

I have a thinkpad a22m recently I install an upgrade of win xp home edition and norton internet security 2005 software that include firewall, antivirus, spam blocker, and so on. I download all the updates for win xp, norton internet security, and drivers. Norton tells me that I have to make a full system scan, when a click that in about 15-20 min the machine freeze. I need to power off and power on again. But in safe mode the c:/ scan complete without any freeze. Is someone have this problem and if so how I fix that, Is that a driver or software problem.
My machine
800 Mhz, 195 mb ram, winxp home upgrade

thanks a lot

The best advice concerning Norton AV and Internet Security is to ditch it completely. It tends to create more problems than it solves. Better to choose a non-Microsoft webbrowser, non-MS email program and non-MS firewall if you want to prevent getting infected.
I use PCs with Win98SE and WinXP Pro SP1, both with Firefox as the browwser, The Bat for e-mail, ZoneAlarm as firewall; no antivirus running i n the background at all. I am logged into the web at least 80 hours a month but regular checks with a standalone viruschecker (McAfee Stinger) usually turn up nothing. Whe n I had Norton Av running (it was pre-installed on my T42) it caused regular problems with other applications hanging or slowing down. Threw it out, problem solved. I keep Norton Systemworks without the AV part for system checks.
T42 (14"/250GB/1.5GB; NL; with minidock); R51 (15" flexview/40GB/1 GB). X31 (12"/320GB/1GB); T42 (14"/60GB/1GB; FR)
