So, when you called IBM/Lenovo, you told them that you wanted an exchange? It sounds like they started sending the unit to you before you sent yours in...

Are the T43's coming from Asia and the T42's from the United States?

I'm guessing you're based in North America? We don't get anything like that here in Europe as to be frank, IBM do not treat customers outside North America with much respect. Things arrive when they arrive, lead times slip, no one cares - all a shambles.

Out of curiosity, have you noticed any difference in the build quality in the new machine, i.e. do the palm rests still flex slightly at the outer edges?

I assume the fan still performs in the same manner....

Actually, I'm very happy with the IBM service here in DK. Had trouble with my keyboard, making squeeky sounds during typing. A technician came after a couple of hours and replaced it.
My CD-RW/DVD drive had some periodic read/write failures. A brand new one came the next day in the mail.
No problems what so ever. Actually, one of the reasons I'm going to hang on to IBM, is the great service.

Looks like Leveno is going to carry on with outstading service. What other computer MFG would do this. One of the reasons I get nothing but a ThinkPad!

your aware the terms of the sale make sure IBM global services is in charge of waranty :) There's no way IBM would lower standards and therefore lower how much they get from Lenovo ;)
