mSATA Samsung issue - PM851

#1 Post by uws101 » Fri Dec 07, 2018 1:49 pm

Samsung Product Number: MZMTE256HMFP
256GB

Connected it to T430s via an adapter on a T430s (Win 10) and tested with Crystal info - it was fine.

Then I insert into a T430s so that I can use it to install Win10 - doesn't recognize - it is also hot to touch
Tried it on another T430s - same story.
It turned out, mSATA is from Dell OEM - so Samsung doesn't help me.

I did not test on the Bios but Win 10 administrator utility does not see this hard drive at all.

Do I need any particular driver/firmware - or faulty SSD?

Anyone here got Samsung mSATA working on Lenovo T430s?

I've got a Samsung 860 EVO 500GB mSATA that runs fine in my T430s (2356). It's not Dell branded, though.

Is it SATA 3?

The drive is but the T430s's mSATA slot is limited to SATA II speeds.

OK - so you can get higher speed mSATA but it will fall back to SATA II speed - just want to make sure.

No...mSATA will run at SATA II speeds regardless of the drives capabilities
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.
