T41 with MS-DOS

#1 Post by mrtaufner » Mon Dec 24, 2018 1:34 pm

Is it possible?

I've been wondering about it quite a while now and today I got a HDD with greater capacity to install all my retro games. But for some games I still need and older OS than XP in order to execute games like TES: Daggerfall.

Can you guys throw some light in?

You won't get sound working in DOS on your T41.

Use DOSBOX emulator under Windows XP.

If you want to play DOS games your best bet is anything from a 755C - 770X or 360C - 380XD machines. Recommend anything with a "D" as the CD drive is handy to have with DOS games.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Whoa, that's bad. With DOSBox on Win XP will I get games running better than with Windoows 7/10?

What about W98, tho?

I'll sure have a look for those.

I don't expect noticeable performance differences in DOSBox between different versions of Windows, but XP may run better on T41 than Win7, and Win10 may not even run (due to missing PAE/NX on the CPU).

There should be drives for Win98; as for DOS games running from Win98, it depends on whether the Win98 driver has a Sound Blaster emulation layer (I don't know).
