Set IBM Rescue and Recovery Password, huh?

#1 Post by alpuzz » Wed Jun 29, 2005 8:51 pm

While installing VMware workstation on my T43, I got the following dialog several times. What's the deal? I definitely wasn't doing anything involving IBM rescue and recovery.

Thanks,

Set IBM Rescue and Recovery Password
You can also set an IBM(R) Rescue and Recovery(TM) password at this time. IBM Rescue and Recovery provides a set of
recovery, diagnostic, and support features. It is independent of the Windows(R) operating system and provides a safe place from
which to perform rescue and recovery operations that might not be possible in Windows.
Choose one of the following ways to set your IBM Rescue and Recovery Password.
Make the IBM Rescue and Recovery password the same as the password you just * created.
Set a different password for IBM Rescue and Recovery.
I'll set the IBM Rescue and Recovery password later.
* WARNING: If this window opened while you were installing software instead of while you were setting a Windows password,
press the CANCEL button now. If you were not setting a Windows password, and you choose to continue, your action might
prevent you from accessing your backups or the IBM Rescue and Recovery workspace. Unless you were setting a Windows
password, press CANCEL now.

I have no idea. All I know is I hit cancel as the message suggested and I don't seem to have any problems, although I haven't attempted to use rapid restore either.
