T43 - Reinstall everything from scratch

#1 Post by felipeudel » Wed Jun 29, 2005 9:06 pm

Hey all, I just wanted to share this with you. I received my thinkpad exactly a week ago. Today I did a FULL resintall of my system reclaming the hidden partition (4GB+) that is reserved for the recovery. When received the machine everything was fine EXCEPT that it took forever to boot. Now after the reinstall (with a fresh copy of XP) everything runs so much faster (25% ++). Here is an awsome link I found to guide you if you decide to do so. p.s. make sure you create your rescue and recovery disks before you do that. Ah, I have seen people complaining online that they lost some of the IMB key mappings, well I got everything working with ALL softwares and functionalities that came with my machine + more hard drive space + faster boot time.

Just one more thing for those complaining about the fan, and the hard drvie (if you have the 60G 72K). Yes, the system is a little noiser, BUT what do you expect from a powerful machine? Who would want a Porsche that soundes like a Dodge Neon (nothing against the Neon, I had one myself a couple of years back). Anyways, here is the link:

Yes, that guide is very good. It is also the sticky in the Windows OS forum.
The author of that site is still responding to questions here:

So the 7200 RPM drive sounds exotic?

What is noisy on the system?

Fan or harddisk?

Chordate,

the 7200RPM is exotic - it is sooo fast! The noise is not anything higher than the 5400, just some clicks here and there when the head start moving or stops.

wiesl,

the fan is noisy compared to other laptops, it sounds something like if the laptop was going to take off  It does not bother me at all. I use the laptop for my classes and work at home, and when I am not using it, I let it hibernate!
