Upgraded from T42p to T43

#1 Post by seabeam » Fri Jul 01, 2005 1:00 am

Bought a 15" Flexview (1600x1200) T42p a year ago in Hong Kong. Found myself in Hong Kong again last week, nice place BTW - great hiking, and decided to trade my machine in for a 14.1" (1400x1050) T43.

I found the T42p model too big and heavy to lug around and the larger screen & higher speed hard drive drained the battery too fast. I don't play 3D games much, apart from Rome Total War now and again, so wasn't too worried about moving from a 128MB graphics card to a 64MB one. Despite this, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Rome Total War seems to play much better on the T43. Another pleasant surprise is how much I find that I like the finger print reader. Will definitely look for this tech in any future laptop I buy -> small (no optical drive), widescreen Mac/Thinkpad with any luck.

My T43 is quiet and not much hotter than my old T42p. Yes the LHS palm rest flexes too much but I will fix this with a shim. Any regrets? Yes, I love the flexview screen on the T42p but I guess I am happy with trading this for a lighter machine.

14.1" SXGA+ T4x work really well here. Love the form factor and battery life.
