USB 3.0 express card low transfer to hdd

#1 Post by radiator » Wed Mar 13, 2019 3:40 pm

I bought from aliexpers usb 3.0 exspress card and have about 40mb/s when transfering data from pendrive usb3.0 . In manager device it is recognised as Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller. I don't know where the problem is? I belived i'd get about 100MB per second. It dosn't matter whether it is my internal hdd or ultrabay hdd socket. Is my transfer in right order or there is sth I could do better to improve my transfer?
Lenovo t410 is my running machine.

What is the exact drive model?

Are you transferring to HDD or to SSD?

What are you transferring? Large files? Small files?

It's possible that the drive is not plugged in all the way, so it makes contact with USB 2.0 pins only, and you get USB 2.0 speeds.

Toshiba 500GB 5400 rpm 2 years ols (I'll give you the exact model when at home)

Transfer to HDD in ultrabay is about 40MB/s
On SSD is about 100MB

It doesn't matter whether it's a filmm 700MB or pdf about 100mb. But small filess are copied faster.

I replugged it to make sure it alright.
Maybe there are new drivers for Renesas Electronics USB 3.0? No idea.

You have to eliminate the HDD itself as the source of the slow transfer speed.

If you know how to set up a RAM disk, try temporarily making one around 200-500MB (if your memory allows). Copy files, both large (100MB+) and small, to it; then copy those files from RAM disk to the USB 3.0 disk.
