Thinklight is WHITE on new T43

#1 Post by JHaislet » Fri Jul 01, 2005 10:50 am

I just got my T43 today (built 6/28/05) and the Thinklight LED is actually WHITE. I remember hearing some members say that IBM was switching to an amber/yellow LED, but mine is definitely white in color; which is fine by me as I actually prefer white.

It's also white on my T42p.

The only yellow light I've seen was on an R series.

How do you find out when your ThinkPad was built?

ThinkLights are usually white, except those sold in France.
Those have yellow lights (like the cars...) :-)

X40 with an amber thinklight.
Which in my opinion much better than the white on my T40 was.

White here, but I almost never use it, unless I'm going to bed and forgot to quickly do something that requires some key that I'm not used to yet. (it's the X21 in my sig)

Yes, and when coupled with a red and silver license plate, safely pull off the road unil it passes! 8)

You mean they're not ALL like that?

Mine does glare at me in the eyes. I've put a piece of electrical tape to be a shield. It is very irritating otherwise.

It has been this way from the beginning. Is there some way to adjust it, if I were to take apart the screen? (My T41 2379-DJU w/white light is still under warranty.)

Hopefully mine wont glare in my eyes.

Personally I wouldn't like yellow. All the thinkpads I've used (Ts from 20-41) have been white.

My X21 has a LITTLE eye glare, but not much.

depending on how I am sitting and how I have the screen I get glare. for the most part I've never had a problem with it though. I still don't understand the light that much either...my screen lights my keyboard fine and I have every single key memorized...I've only used it like once or twice just playing with it.

Well, the screen on this doesn't QUITE pump out enough, and it isn't aimed directly AT the keyboard.

Myself, I don't look at the keyboard when I'm just typing away. However, I'm not used to the key layout of the X21 quite yet, so if I'm doing anything other than typing, I have to look. The light helps a LOT when it's dark.

You know what? I think I figured it out...

The newer R and X series are made by Winstron, whereas the T series is moving from Great Wall Computer to Lenovo's own production line, right?

The X4 and the newer (R5?) R series have the amber ThinkLight.

Maybe it was actually Winstron's decision to use an amber ThinkLight...
