X250 lost supervisor password

#1 Post by Thinky_X250 » Mon Apr 15, 2019 7:49 am

Hello,

about 1 year ago I bought my X250 thinkpad on ebay. Recently I found out that the BIOS is locked. I contacted the seller and he told me he didnt know anything about the supervisor password.
I know that it is extremely hard to reset the SVP on newer thinkpad models.

Did anybody of you reset the SVP successfully wihtout replacing the motherboard (which is expensive of course)?

Thank you.

Unfortunately (or maybe not), such discussions are against the rules of the forum.

Apart from that, currently it is probably (not much) cheaper (but definitely easier) to replace the motherboard.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (the Real Black Stuff). And pigs CAN fly!

Maybe it would work to replace the BIOS chip with a new one. But im not able to do that so I probably have to live with not having access to my BIOS. :)

Long shot, and I've never tried this yet, but maybe it helps? viewtopic.php?f=43&t=128424

didnt work and would be funny if it did since I dont think Lenovo would provide customers with a tool to easily reset the SVP

This tool is not Lenovo official and was made to help set screen resolutions -- the same way you manually encode screen resolutions for the EDID chip when building a Hackintosh.

+1 amens to just changing the motherboard - I ended up having to do that since my camera and microphone were dead on my first motherboard anyway and what a difference it made afterward. Perhaps you could even search for the illusive i7-boards now.

I don't have experience with X250 machines but I would look into coreboot to gain back control of the machine.
