t43 with Intel 2915 wireless problems

#1 Post by cuk » Sun Jul 03, 2005 2:24 am

I have T43 on test and it seems that wireless is broken, either driver, either hardware.
After <50mb of fast data transfer ( FTP from local server ) over wireless, it stop functioning. I cannot even see the access point in "wireless networks".
When I put the notebook into sleep or hibernate and try then, it works for another <50mb transfer.
I have updated the drivers from original IBM "ThinkPad software installer".

Any clue ?

Hey! Welcome to the club, my 2915 card is broken too!
Go into your presdesktop area and do dianostics and use interactive test... If it fails in anyway, talk to IBM...

Oh, and I allmost forgot... If I lock it to 802.11b, it works. Problems are with a/g ( 54mbit ).

Do your 2915 cards exhibit the same problem when downloading large files from the web via HTTP or transfering files internally via Windows File & Printer Sharing?

I just got my T43 w/2915 card yesterday and have successfully downloaded Windows XP SP2 (~230MB) from the web and also transferred probably 8-10GB of data, internally, at the same time (cd iso images), over the wireless network (g @54mbps) without any problems.

I've played around with both the latest IBM & Intel PRO/Set drivers with the same results.

However, I am NOT using IBM's access connections software; just XP's wireless configuration tool. This seems to be the only variable between our setups (sans the AP's).

Maybe ya'll also got a bad batch of cards.

Mine is functional, and the only quirk I have with it is the fact that I can't turn its beacon on or off using FN+F5.

Another quirk is that it doesn't seem to like the DNS server that's supplied to it by the router, as I have to do a number of repairs before I can get DNS lookup back working. I've since assigned a static local DNS forwarder instead of this crappy (borrowed) AP.

I've done TONs of GBs of transfer since I received this T43p a month ago.
