I'm sorta paranoid about my battery.
This is a 6-cell, and it came with only 43 Wh "full capacity charge", while it's "full design capacity" is 47.52 Wh. Did I get shafted here? That's like 90% of full capacity!
Another question - when I have the laptop plugged in, and the battery is fully charged at 100%... Is the thing drawing current directly from the AC Adapter, or is it still using the battery and having the AC adapter recharge it bit by bit simultaneously? As I understand, this is probably bad for the battery...
Questoins about battery
There are many, many threads here about batteries.
Here are a couple of recent one's:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=866
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=965
The first thread has a link to some good info at batteryuniversity:
http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm
When plugged into AC, your thinkpad will be using the AC and not the battery. But if the battery level drops below 95%, it will charge it back up. If you have a T42, you can adjust the recharge threshold to something lower than 95% (see the second thread link I pasted in).
If your battery still shows a significant decrease in charge capacity after a couple of charge/discharge cycles, I would contact ibm for a replacement.
Also, I read somewhere (here, I thought, but cant find it) that a semi-deep discharge is needed every so-often to keep the battery gauge accurate. Charging the battery frequently when it has only decreased to 95% is not supposed to negatively affect the battery, but apparently it does affect the battery gauge.
